Dr Ray Shidrawi
Lanserhof at The Arts Club is delighted to announce the position of our new Medical Director Dr Ray Shidrawi.
Having qualified from Guy’s Hospital Medical School, University of London, in 1987. Dr Shidrawi went on to train in general (internal) medicine and gastroenterology, achieving Certificates of Completion of Specialist Training in 1998.
Appointed Consultant Physician & Gastroenterologist to the Homerton University Hospital in 2000, Dr Shidrawi developed a special interest in interventional endoscopy, including ERCP and Endoscopic Ultrasound, as well as providing a tertiary referral service to neighbouring hospitals in the region, specifically for the endoscopic management of gastroparesis, pancreatic pseudocysts and complications of bariatric surgery. He has since set up a highly successful Academic Department of Medical & Surgical Gastroenterology, which now comprises of eight consultant colleagues.
In 2010 Dr Shidrawi set up Ketogenic Enteral Nutrition (KEN) therapy as an alternative, non-invasive technique for the management of obesity. This has proved highly successful and has a wide international following.
Dr Shidrawi has also published widely in peer-reviewed journals on various topics, including nutrition, oncology, health screening, coeliac disease, and interventional endoscopy, as well as sitting on the editorial board of “Clinical Nutrition.”
Outside of work he very much enjoys spending time with his family, historical documentaries, and also takes great pleasure in travelling, which being tri-lingual (fluent in English, Arabic and French) enhances his cultural experience and helps with successfully engaging with his patients.
