May 11, 2021 THE HEALTH PODCAST # 17 – Mental Health Awareness
With Dr Jonathan Garabette
Throughout the pandemic, millions of us have experienced a mental health problem, or seen a loved one struggle. To discuss the importance of mental health, we are joined by Dr Jonathan Garabette to acknowledge Mental Health Awareness Week, which runs from 10th – 16th May 2021. Last year, 1 in 4 people experienced a mental health problem of some kind in England. Levels of awareness about common mental health problems have improved over the last few years, but some are still living with severe mental illness. This week, we want to explore further and what we can do to help.
Dr Jonathan Garabette originally trained as a medical doctor at Guy’s King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School, where he received a first-class degree in neuroscience, before graduating in Medicine and Surgery in 2004. He then undertook specialist psychiatry training on the prestigious South London & Maudsley training scheme. Dr Garabette qualified as a consultant psychiatrist in general adult psychiatry in 2012. Fewer than 1% of UK psychiatrists hold dual qualifications as a consultant and as a medical psychotherapist. Qualifying as a consultant psychiatrist in medical psychotherapy in 2015, this specialism enables Dr Garabette to not only provide expert general adult psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment; but also highly specialised, individualised psychotherapeutic assessment, recommendations and therapy.
